Hot! Apollo Now Supports Writeboards

  • Sharebar

A writeboard is, essentially, a web-based text document that is shareable across different users.  One of the apollo-writeboards-menuearlier writeboard features was introduced by 37signals in its flagship product, Basecamp.  Many other collaborative project management applications have since followed suit in providing this type of feature for their users and Apollo has done similar.

Apollo, who use its own product for managing the development of its new features, sees the introduction of its new writeboards functionality as “one of the most exiting new features” for 2011, that has been developed steadily to ensure this more complex functionality, that needed much internal collaboration, was done right.

The new writeboard screen is clear and follows the same principle as the message’s feature in Apollo.  Keeping things working in a similar way makes life much easier for users – if they know how to use one feature, then they are likely to be able to transfer that to the new features.

The writeboard lets users enter a title and then the main bulk of the text goes in the content of the writeboard apollo screenitself.  A formatting guide, that sites in a pane to the right of the writeboard gives users the ability to apply different formatting styles to text inside the writeboard, for example, headings, text styles, like bold and italic, along with numbered and bulleted lists, to name but a few.  In this way, information in a writeboard can be as comprehensively laid out and formatted as it could within a Word document.  Like Apollo message and comments features, writeboards can be set as private. The new writeboards also support versioning, so a user can choose whether to overwrite the current version when saving their edits or, instead, keep the old version and create a new one, allowing a history to be saved.

With notifications included in the functionality, project team members can be kept up to date immediately with any changes to the writeboard.
