Equestrian Horse Apps for iPhone – Online Tools for Business Management

Equinox-Apps is a UK business that operates in niche market, producing iPhone apps for the equestrian market.  Launched in December, 2011 with its first app, British Eventing Dressage Tests, Equinox-apps quickly turned to Basecamp and its sister products to help manage and control its day-to-day business.

In fact, Equinox-Apps, being a ‘technology’ company, opted to go for the simplest technological solutions to help run their business – with project and document management falling to Basecamp, their small business accounting covered by Quickbooks Online and their contact management with Highrise.

“Although we produce iPhone apps, we don’t have a huge technical budget and neither do we have the time or the inclination to worry about installing and looking after business management software.  Software as a service applications, like Basecamp and Quickbooks mean we can buy services ready to use and pay for them as we go,” said Barbara Gibbs, one of the managing partners.

The company’s approach, generally, is to work closely with specialists to develop apps,  so keeping a tight control on information is essential for this small business.  Version control is important and the document upload and management features of Basecamp hit the mark for Equinox-Apps.  Their latest release, Horse Stretching Exercises, which is aimed at the worldwide equestrian market, was produced with the input of a leading equine back specialist. The app helps horse owners to develop a solid stretching routine to help improve overall performance and includes a variety of images, text and spoken instructions.

“Safety is paramount when working with horses,” Barbara Gibbs, from Equinox-Apps, told us, “ so it was vital the information we used for the Horse Stretching Exercises app was accurate and put together in the right sequence and the right format.  Controlling our documents, images and other files was important for us and Basecamp’s document facility really helped out with that,” Barbara said. “For the British Eventing Dressage Tests, we have around 20 different tests, each with very specific markers and movements and mistakes are just not acceptable.”

Basecamp has allowed this company to share information collaboratively amongst its growing team of developers, ensuring project plans are seen by all and the right information is available to the right developer at the right time.
