Kona – A new Individual-Focussed Integrated Work-Personal Life Management Application
Kona from Deltek is a new product recently introduced to the market that aims to help people plan, balance manage their work-life activities. Focussed on the principle of successful delivery of projects, Kona aims to bring functionality to its user base that helps them to not only organize and manage projects and their associated activities but also to collaborate and communicate effectively.
Projects are delivered by people to people, giving us a project team and a set of stakeholders. For the project to be guaranteed a level of success, everyone involved needs to know a number of things, including:
- How the project is going?
- What they need to do and when they need to it by
- The status of other activities that need their input or that they are dependent on to carry out their own allocated tasks
- Has anything (most likely unexpected) happened that will affect their planned activities?
- Will the project be delivered on time and, if not, when?
- And so very many more…
Without a strong flow of information to the right people at the right time, the project cannot hope to succeed (and if it does it is despite the poor management rather than because of it)! So, Kona aims to answer this challenge by bringing aspects of social media to the project management collaboration arena to produce an integrated solution that encourages project members to come together in a way that makes communication and engagement with others a second-nature part of their day-to-day way of working. Offering conversations, instant chat and shareable files, it’s easy to keep in touch with team members.
By placing the focus on both working and personal life projects and activities, Kona looks to address that balance between work and home and helps to ensure that you’re not double-booking yourself over a personal set of activities, for example, rather than having your personal stuff somewhere else.
From a user perspective, Kona has an appealing interface that is easy to find your way around. The functionality is comprehensive and it does what it says on the tin! It’s worth noting if you’re working on an older browser, Kona wont! It also requires Google Chrome Frame Plug-in to be installed for IE7/8 to get the best out of it.
Although only recently released, Kona is already boasting strong sign-up numbers, with some very positive feedback.
Currently the product is being offered free – so sign-up and make the most of it at www.kona.com.
