Treehouse Leads in Web Development Training

In the web development industry, there is really no standard way to identify whether a person has achieved some modicum of technological acuity. There are colleges and universities that provide coursework in technology, web development, and application engineering, but how can you wade through those diplomas to determine if the person you hire has actually learned something?

One of our favorite tech entrepreneurs is Ryan Carson. Ryan is a web guru that we really admire. Zach and I recently had the opportunity to speak with him over the phone. He struck me as so down to earth and kind. Not only that, but incredibly smart and talented. His latest endeavor is one that we wholeheartedly support: TeamTreeHouse.com.

He addressed the need for a “school” of web training where actual measured, measurable success occurs by building out Tree House. e-businesses that train web designers, programmers, and developers. What makes Treehouse so unique is there interactive video delivery method. They teach and train web developers through a series of short (usually under ten minutes) videos. Then there are “code challenges” where students practice writing their code in real time. Only after they have completed the test are they offered a badge – or a “level up.”

The unique facet of their business model is the development of a e-classroom where people graduate with an actual “degree” that means something. Far too many traditional schools “stamp of approval” isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Ryan’s team has truly steered clear of that. From their vantage point in the tree tops, they see clearly what we actually need.

There is also a layer of integrity with which the online training program has been built.Students can go through several items to identify themselves as who they say they are so that employers can determine that they have in fact completed the training. We’ll see if we can’t get some of the guys at Tree House to expound on what this means.
