New Highrise to Basecamp Project Feature Introduced
37signals have announced that they are adding a new feature to their suite of applications that will allow users to create a Basecamp project from a Highrise deal and it’s as easy as clicking the new ‘Start a Basecamp project’ button in the Highrise screen. This has been a much-asked for development and one which will clearly save regular users a good deal of time and effort.
The previous way to set up a Basecamp project from a Highrise deal was tedious: On winning a deal and representing this in Highrise, the user would then login to their Basecamp account and create a new project. Once the project had been created, the details of the deal could then be copied and pasted into the project. If the user then wanted to invite contacts from Highrise to participate in the Basecamp project, they had to be set up individually after the project had been created. Because there was no facility to import their Highrise contact information into Basecamp, the contacts had to be set up again using copy and paste to get the contact details. Imagine doing this every time a successful team won a deal!
The new functionality now means that the hard work is done for the user at the click of a button, at which point, the new ‘deal-to-project’ form will be displayed in Basecamp. The fields on the form will already be filled with default information from the user’s Highrise deal and contacts from Highrise can be added to the new Basecamp project with a single button click. The user can then simply review the information on the form and confirm to create the new project.
The single sign-on functionality, referred to as 37ID, that 37signals introduced to their application Suite is the cornerstone that allowed this new feature to be implemented. The Suite involves a single subscription payment on a monthly basis and covers Basecamp, Backpack, Highrise and Campfire and is different to individual subscriptions to each application. Subscription to the entire Suite is necessary to make use of this new ‘Highrise deal to Basecamp project’ feature. Customers currently with separate subscriptions to Highrise and Basecamp will have to upgrade to benefit.
